Ariana Grande! (We're Obsessed Too)

Newly gracing the cover of Cosmo, magazine editors sum it up best with the simple title "we're obsessed!" This super star known for the "dumb girl" on "Victorious" experienced her breakout year plastered on the covers of Seventeen magazine, Cosmo, GL, and even Teen vogue (you betta slay Ariana!!).

So what's to say of this. Her original character Cat was in every sense a total idiot. A HILARIOUS idiot, but thick headed none the less. Now was this damaging to teen girls on a national basis? Having a blatantly dumb girl stroll around hallways making a fool of herself isn't necessarily what one calls a role model… Well the point is WHO CARES NOW. Ariana has proved ANY girl can break their reputation as "the stupid one" and earn the title of a successful women with no strings attached.

Not only is she an inspiration with her magazine covers showing one doesn't have to "show it all" to get attention, but also Ariana's new album "Yours Truly" features hits like "Now You'll Never Now" and Popular Song" which tell stories of a women in power of her love life (THANK YOU Ariana for not making the bajillionth song about a girl obsessed and at the mercy of a guy). Now are there other love songs in the album?? Sure there are. Number one radio hit "The Way" tells a story of her passion towards a man but not her SUBMISSION (biiiggg flipping difference).

So what has this break out super star showed us?? You can break out of your stereotype ANYTIME and become a women that commands respect! You can have a "Popular Song" without playing into the stereotype of the damsel in distress. And most importantly you don't have to conform to the classic celebrity or "popular girl" to get attention. She didn't and now millions are OBSESSED

Check out the new tune.

Wanted to give a shout out to Alicia Keys on the release of her new album that included the extremely powerful song "Power". It is only fitting to share this song on this national holiday celebrating a historical hero who strove for equality and rights.

Winter Olympics Announcements Roll In

History is made!!!!

Not to take away the thunder from the previous Winter Olympics post, but I wanted to give a shout out to two past summer olympians in track and field who accomplished a rare feat this past week. They became the 9th and 10th olympians ever to compete in both Summer and Winter Olympics.

Enjoy,

Kevin

A Quick Break from your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It's easy to get caught up in TV shows and movies (as the Ice Ninjas often do), but every once in long, long while a break is necessary. I've got just the real world update you need:

The 2014 Winter Olympics are around the corner!
They're taking place in Sochi, Russia and begin on February 7th. Do you know who's competing? Who to watch? What the sport of skeleton is?
Fear not, I've got you covered. Skeleton appears to be a form of extreme sledding. More on it here. More importantly, there will be tons of women tearing up the ice and snow in Sochi, competing in everything from speed skating to skiing to ice hockey. They aren't TV or movie characters, but they're (potential) real life idols. Learn about a few of them here:

Yuna Kim (South Korea, figure skating): Yuna, often known as "Queen of the Ice" in her home country of South Korea, is a 23 year skater who is no stranger to big-stage success - she was the 2010 female figure skating Olympic champion. Can she repeat this year or will the pressure get to her?

Nbc Chicago
Aja Evans (U.S., bobsled): Aja ran track in college and didn't start bobsledding until 2010. (Um, hi, quick note here: it took her only 4 years to become an Olympic athlete in the sport?! I'm already a fan.) Despite her late start, Aja is expected to do big things in Sochi…let's see if her talent matches up with that of the more experienced competitors.
Zimbio

Lindsey Jacobellis (U.S., snowboarding): Lindsey is one of the most dominant female snowboarders in the world. She's won at every level, and is a World Cup and X Games regular. This Olympics with be Lindsay's third, but she's never won a gold medal at the Olympic games. Will this finally be her year?

A not so GLEEful return?

For all those Glee super fans out there counting down the days until the show's return, many are still speculating how their beloved character Finn passed away. After the tragic loss of Corey Monteith in 2013, fans were left mourning and speculating what will happy to Finn and his girlfriend Rachel. ‘The Quarterback” an episode dedicated to Finn (Episode 3, Season 5) offered few details into his passing, leaving many fans wanting closure. But don’t give up hope just yet! A set worker posted a photo of Finn's football jersey hanging in the locker room on set fuelling rumours that the show will give another tribute to Finn (and maybe even some of our performances by Finn!) when Glee returns for its 100th episode on February 25th

Which performances would you pick for episode 100!? I know one of my favorites has always been Don’t Stop Believing!

Haley vs. Alex

If you’re a Modern Family fan (and who isn’t these days!?) it’s hard not to notice the Dunphy sisters’ great outfits every Wednesday night. Even though Haley seems to constantly give Alex a hard time about her clothes, we all know that’s just some sisterly teasing! Not only are their styles almost totally opposite but they match their unique personalities perfectly! It’s hard not envy their perfectly put together outfits and use them as inspiration for your own wardrobe. Do you resemble Alex with her sophisticated cardigans and edgy t-shirts or Haley with her high heeled boots, over sized earrings and skinny jeans? Alex’s style goes with her put together, intelligent personality while Haley’s style matches her fun and out-going personality but who says you can’t mix and match or create you own!
